Ramblings from the Ramrod

August 2009

It has been quite a few months since I put a Ramblins together so I will try to catch everyone up on club events and activities.

First of all, let me just say, August was HOT, HOT, HOT. Other than that little fact it was a most wonderful shoot. We had 59 brave souls beat the heat and sun. The stages moved quickly and only one really took much thought. We had three new shooters join us. Appaloosa Honey, Horse Doc, and Rex, (we will need to get Rex a cowboy had and alias by next month I think.)

We also had quite a few Gunfighters this month, some very experienced and some trying it for the first time. Please remember that we want anyone interested in shooting Gunfighter to work into shooting Gunfighter by practicing one handed , one gun (duelist then double duelist) Everyone should be very proficient in drawing, firing and, holstering with their off hand before they try to pull two guns at once.

As most people have heard by now there have been some major changes with SMSS and ORSA. The first and foremost item I want everyone to understand is that there was no conflict between the two clubs. We found out that there were some papers that should have been filed each year with the IRS to show our eligibility to stay a Not for Profit organization. These forms were never filed in the twelve years we have been acting as a club. We talked to two different CPA’s and were advised to dissolve the charter and incorporation of SMSS to avoid any penalties and fines. We have done this as of last month. We froze membership to current members in good standing and also froze our assets. Meanwhile ORSA was having problems with the name SMSS and our incorporation operating under ORSA insurance and had requested we shoot at ORSA under the name ORSA Cowboys. We have suspended membership at SMSS and frozen all assets, SMSS still owns all the targets at this time. We will revisit SMSS in one year and see what we want to do. If a range is found that 51% of SMSS members want to move to then we will move and there will be two clubs formed at that time.

If you have not taken the Range Officer classes that are offered, I strongly suggest taking RO I and after you have been shooting for a while take RO II. These classes will make you a better shooter, worker and club member as they spell out the most important aspects of our sport. They will make you more safety minded. Let Last Kiss know if you need to take one or both classes. She is offering both classes on the 29th. Info is posted on our forum. If you have taken the class but would like to have a refresher course, there is no charge and it is a good idea to take a refresher class as the rules change some every year.

See everyone next month,

Long Days and Pleasant Nights,
