Ramblings from the Ramrod

February 2009

We had a great shoot in February considering the weather is always iffy and this last month was no exception. We had 67 shooters that braved both questionable weather and the fact it was Valentines Day, I was impressed with that number to be honest. We had Copperhead Joe, Isom Kid and Little Wing from Hooten join us for the match along with, Iron Maiden and Whiskey Creek Johnson from Possum Trot.

The Smoky Mountain Shoot-Out is quickly approaching and we are still taking volunteers to help work and make this match our best yet. We are looking for volunteers for all positions for any and all days; we need people Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesday is set-up, Thursday is side matches, Friday and Saturday is main matches and Sunday is teardown; if you can help any or all days please get with Keystone. We are already close to 130 shooters registered and this may be the year we close it down at 200. If you plan on shooting please get your registration in as soon as you can.

Remember that we will not be shooting at ORSA the second Saturday in March this year; we have swapped weekends with Steel Challenge in order to host the SMSO. I think Fast Harley is trying to get a group together and invade another match that we never get to attend.

Thanks to everyone for staying until all the targets were put away. Everyone pitched in and got the job done. We all got finished about the same time with out extra work for anyone; again thanks and it was a great way to pitch in by everyone.
Toby, the ORSA president, has invited us to attend the next ORSA board meeting on March 4th. We will be discussing some issues concerning ORSA, SMSS and what I hope is nothing more then miscommunications. If you are a member in good standing of ORSA please plan to attend this meeting at the ORSA clubhouse starting at 7:30.

Congratulations to Fast Harley for his retirement, I think that means he was tired yesterday and he is tired again today. I also have heard it is Kennesaw Kid’s 70th birthday sometime this month, maybe this weekend. Happy birthday Kennesaw.
Watch the forum for work day announcements; we will need to spread some fresh gravel before the SMSO and a few other jobs to get the range looking good.

Long Days and Pleasant Nights,
