April 2008 Newsletter:

What a difference a month makes!  In contrast to the bone-chilling conditions of the March shoot, April was a perfect day for cowboy action shooting.  Registration went very well, 77 cowboys and cowgirls participated in a great match.  After the match, a record 55 members of SMSS stayed for the annual general meeting.

Minutes of the meeting have been sent by email to all members as well as the updated Bylaws.  Although the agenda was quite long, the meeting lasted just over an hour.  It was the consensus of the members that our annual match this year at ORSA may have been our most successful yet. The club decided to repeat the annual match in 2009 and will attempt to schedule it for the last (4th) weekend in March.  New officers were elected for the coming year.  Most of the “new” officers were “old” officers.  Re-elected were Tennessee Tombstone (Ramrod), Keystone (Assistant Ramrod), Last Kiss (Marshal), Jim Mayo (Scorekeeper), Hombre Sin Nombre (Beancounter), Silver Dust  (Territorial Governor) and Fiddleback (Chief Scout).  One new officer was elected:  Fast Harley (Foreman).

SA Pondwater has been shooting really well lately and won the April match also.  Fast Harley, had a remarkable Gunfighter match and placed second.  Marshal Too Tall was the top 49er and came in third overall.  The top ten also included Fiddleback (first in Traditional), Last Kiss (first in Ladies Gunfighter), Widowmaker Hill, Tabasco Jot, Slater, Tenn Critr (first in Elder Statesman) and T-Bone Angus (first in B-Western).   Congratulations to all!!!!!!

Last Kiss also was the top ladies shooter.  The rest of the top ten ladies were Dangnabit Deb, Short Cake, Cookie Lynn, Lawless Lynn, Feather Dancer, Moab Mab, Triple J, Flossie May and Sassy Jen.  Great shootin’ ladies!!!!

The Smoky Mountain Shootist Society is one of the largest clubs the country.  Many of you renewed your memberships, and thanks for that.  Renewals are due January first with a grace period though the April match.  Those of you who have not yet done so, please do so soon, so that we can continue to be such a strong club.  The fee is $40 and can be sent to SMSS, P.O. Box 32894, Knoxville, Tennessee 37930.
