March 2008 Newsletter:

The 22 cowboys and two cowgirls who participated in the March monthly match will from now on be known as members of “the True Grit” posse. Shooting in strong winds, a snowstorm, below freezing temperatures and red mud and slush are the criteria for qualifying for this honor. Concentration on the shooting scenarios was a challenge for most of us. However, our newest first-time shooter, JW Compton, said he had a blast; imagine the treat he will be in for when he shoots in our “usual” 60 degree, sunny weather.

Delta Desperado shot with us for the first time and also was not deterred by the weather. He hails from Lookout Mountain and was surprised that his buddy Tennessee Mongo did not show up. We look forward to seeing you up here again soon, hopefully under better conditions.

Fast Harley was the toughest hombre of us all; he was the top shooter this month. Another gunfighter, Widowmaker, placed second. Fiddleback was third and Last Kiss, our ladies gunfighter was fourth. The rest of the top ten was Badlands Beck, Moonshine Roberts, Lightning McCoy, Ziggy the Kid, Hallelujah Hawkeye and Long Gulch. Congratulations to all!!!!!!

The Smoky Mountain Shootist Society is one of the largest clubs the country. Many of you renewed your memberships, and thanks for that. Renewals are due January first with a grace period though the April match. Those of you who have not yet done so, please do so soon, so that we can continue to be such a strong club. The fee is $40 and can be sent to: SMSS, P.O. Box 32894, Knoxville, Tennessee 37930.
