Ramblings from the Ramrod

April 2007

Well, the day started out pretty good but it did get a little moist there towards the end of the shoot. Do to pessimistic weather forecasters, those that believe the afore mentioned weather forecasters and a few conflicting shoots we had a small group of hardy cowboys and cowgirls for the April shoot. In all we had twenty eight shooters brave the forecasted torrential rains with embedded thunderstorms and possible tornados. We made two posses and went right along with the shoot. A few showers blew through but were short lived. One posse got finished at about 1:00 and the second posse got through at about 1:30, unfortunately the main storm hit at about 1:15. The first posse got the steel put up from four stages as the second posse finished up, we got the steel from the last stage put up and got the heck out of there. On the bright side we did get to check out the drainage ditches Fiddleback dug. They worked fine.

The elections are coming up after the next shoot. We also have a few other topics to cover since this is our annual meeting. We will have a report on the annual shoot along with any other club business. If you are interested in becoming an officer please get involved and volunteer. We are always looking for people help with different positions.

We are going to have some new members and visitors due to the exposure from the Smoky Mountain Shoot Out, if you see a stranger make sure they don’t stay that way. Introduce yourself and welcome them to the club.

Keystone and Deb have some hard decisions to make in the near future, please keep them and their families in your hearts and prayers. We are with you guys; please let us know if there is anything SMSS can do to help. Donate blood in Deb’s name if you can. She is listed with MEDIC under Debby Brenneman.

I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the Smoky Mountain Shoot Out a success. We have gotten high reviews from most shooters. We will be having a cookout or something like that as a thank you to everyone. El Carrera, Shooten Sue, Lady Tombstone, Big, Lighting McCoy, Moonshine Roberts, Jim Mayo and Hombre Sin Nombre – Great Job.

Fiddleback and Donzy Darlin are expecting a little cowboy or girl in a few months and are looking for an alias. Along those same lines Moonshine and Yogo Blue are also expecting about the same time. That one might need to be called Blue Moon….

I just read on the forum that Yogo and Moonshine got hitched. They plan on having a cowboy wedding this fall and they want us to attend. That sounds like a lot of fun. Congratulations guys, may you find happiness at every turn.

At our club, if a scenario calls for a target to be “engaged” or “shot at” it means the same thing. You don’t have to hit a target to “engage it” or “shoot it”. That said it is also a ruling at our club that a miss can not cause a procedural and a procedural can not cause a miss. This means that if a shooter shoots a target out of order but hits the target it is still a hit, if a shooter shoots at the wrong target but misses it is a miss but not a procedural. This may sound a little confusing but it avoids arguments about misses and procedurals on the line. Remember in our sport all questions go to the shooter.

Remember the elections coming up in May. Be there or be elected!!!!

Long Day and Pleasant Nights
