Ramblings from the Ramrod

January 2007

What a pleasant surprise this past shoot turned out to be. If you stayed home because of questionable weather you missed a great shoot that not only was warm but also dry. We had two new shooters, a few spectators that are interested in shooting with us and some visitors from Possum Trot. It was good to see Tall Drink of Water again. I did not get to shoot in his posse but I have in the past and it is something to see. I am sure it was a fun posse to shoot with; I think five of the top ten were in the same posse with him.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in to get the range cleaned up and the steel put away. We had a good group with good workers.

The Smoky Mountain Shoot Out is quickly approaching and we still have plenty to do at the range to be prepared. We have ordered two prefab buildings that will be ready by March and we need to build a coral on one stage and we will have our five bays ready. We also need to put a roof on one building up at bay seven and build a lean-to on bay six. We will be working a few Sundays coming up and we need all the help we can get. There is also a drainage problem we have to fix pretty soon. We will be getting new gravel and spreading it in all the bays and on the road between the stages.

Watch the forum and help out when you can.

Elections are coming up in April and I am here by taking nomination/volunteers for the positions of officers in SMSS. I would love to have a few people in each position so we can have a real election. There have been a lot of people asking what they can do to help the club and serving as an office is a great way to get involved.

I also recommend everyone attending the annual meeting for an update on club activities. The meeting will be held after the April shoot on the 14th at either the range or the club house at ORSA depending on the weather. Be there or maybe be elected.

We are looking for stage designs for our shoots. If you have a scenario or two or five please submit them to El Carrera or Moonshine Roberts and we will get them reviewed for safety and use them in the coming year.

Til next time
