Ramblings from the Ramrod

July 2007

We had a great July shoot this past week, nice weather without being too hot (until the end of the shoot) and plenty of happy cowboys and cowgirls helping out where ever they were needed. We also had a huge group that attended Cancun’s after the match to figure out what went wrong and what went right. After a few sarsaparillas all I know for sure is “Them Poohawks are pest!!!!!”

We are working on a few things with SMSS including a cookout at the range, the annual shoot in March, expanding the range and a few other items that seem to come up daily.

We are trying to find a date to have a cookout for everyone who worked at the Smoky Mountain Shoot Out. All the workers I have talked to have said they want everyone invited and just make it a club cook out. I am all in favor of this if the executive committee approves it.

We are also trying to find a firm that will layout a design for more bays at the end of the quail field.

We (SMSS) are now part of the Action Pistol range at ORSA. The Action Pistol group has ask and been granted a chair on the ORSA board and we are now over all activities at the Action Pistol Range. All four action disciplines make up this group. This should give us more input into what happens at the action range. We will be holding meeting every two months on the last Thursday. You must be a member of ORSA and active in one of the action disciplines in order to vote on any issue effecting the action pistol range or ORSA. The first meeting will be held on August 28th at 7:00 at Gander Mountain.

We are getting a badge order together for the SMSS badges. This year they are $50 each plus $1 per letter or caricature. There will also be a shipping charge that will be divided between all the badges ordered. Let me know if you want to order a badge. I will have a sign up sheet at the next shoot. If you have let me know you want one, please checking the spelling on the signup sheet as this is what I will be sending in to Running Buffalo as an order.

It looks like the Outlaw Way is spreading rather quickly, I noticed that last month “Outlaw” was the second largest class, second only to the “Traditional” shooters. Larry Erp is also coming out of Florida to shoot against us next month so I hope the Outlaws show up and are ready to defend our titles. By the way, it looks like Larry Erp shot a clean match last month down in Florida so we had better be on our toes.

I went to my 30 year class reunion last weekend and had a few people asking about Cowboy Action Shooting so we might have a few new faces around in the next few months. I did notice at my reunion that I went to school with a bunch of old people. Glad I have not aged in the last 30 years.

It looks like I will be hold another new shooters class next month if anyone know someone that would like to attend. Watch the forum for announcements.

Til next month
