Ramblings from the Ramrod

March 2008

Well, it time for another Ramblins from the Ramrod since I skipped last months. We had a cold and windy shoot in March, blowing snow all day with plenty of mind freeze going around. The stages were fun and challenging, especially if you were used to shooting sweeps only. I myself accumulated more procedurals in one match (3) then I had all of last year and also picked up my first Stage DQ. What a day, I was very glad when it was over and I was able to laugh about it over a few adult beverages at our local watering hole.
The Smoky Mountain Shoot-Out is less than three weeks away and things are progressing forward if not smoothly, as most of you know ORSA elected to do some major work on the Action Pistol Range starting at the end of last month. We now have twenty foot berms and by the SMSO we should have new drainage and new gravel. If we don’t have the drainage we will at least have the new gravel. Keystone has a list of workers that are scheduled to help out at the match and there are plenty more volunteers standing in the wings to pitch in where needed. Please attend the shoot even if you do not plan on shooting. There are always last minute details that need to be worked out and everyone needs to be able to take breaks along the way.
Elections are coming up in April, we will hold the annual meeting after the April Shoot at the Action Pistol Range unless it is raining and then we will hold it at the ORSA clubhouse. We will make the announcement at the shoot. All officer positions are available for nominations, if you would like to nominate someone or volunteer for a nomination please let me know and I will put your nomination on the ballet board. Some officers have said they will serve again if no one else is elected and I am sure there are some that would gladly give up the position for some new blood in the ranks. We will also be deciding if we want to continue with the SMSO and other club related matters. Please plan on attending the annual meeting and I will try to keep it as short as possible.
There are many big shoots coming up and I want to wish everyone good luck and make sure you spread the “Southern Cowboy Way” Make friends and shoot well, invite everyone to come visit us as SMSS.

See everyone at the Smoky Mountain Shoot-Out
