General Information

Smoky Mountain Shoot-Out
March 27, 28, and 29, 2008

General Information

Cowboy Attire:
Each shooter must conform to minimum SASS dress requirements. We request that Shoot-Out participants stay in SASS dress for all shoot events and functions (attendance at The Cowboy Emporium, the Shooters’ and Vendors’ Reception, and the Awards Reception, Dinner, and Presentation). Cowboy Action Shooting is a fun and exciting sport that generates a lot of
interest—due in large part to the Period Attire. Staying in character even while “out on the town” helps promote our sport by stirring local interest, and increases the number of spectators who visit The Range to watch the fun—all of which results in publicity…and new shooters!
Please help us put our best foot (or boot) forward for the City and Townsfolk of Oak Ridge by complying with these requests.

Motorized Guncarts:
We welcome shooters of all skill levels and abilities, but we must request that the use of
motorized guncarts be limited to those who need them for disability and/or handicap reasons.
If you must use a motorized guncart we do require that they are kept to the opposite side of the road from the stages.

Shooter Sign-In:
Early Shooter Sign-In is located at the Double Tree Hotel Lobby on Wednesday evening
March 26 from 5pm until 9pm. Regular Shooter Sign-In is located at The Cowboy Emporium (located at the Oak Ridge Civic Center) on Thursday March 27 from 9am until 9pm. Final Shooter Sign-In is located at The Range on Friday morning, March 28 from 7am until 8am.

Safety Meetings:
Safety Meetings are held at The Range on Friday, March 28 at 8am and 12 Noon. All shooters must attend the Safety Meeting prior to shooting Main Match Stages. If you do not attend the Safety Meeting, you will not be allowed to shoot.

Ammo Requirements:
Each of the main stages require ammo for 10 pistol, 9 or 10 rifle, and up to 6 shotgun. Additional ammo is needed for Thursday Side Matches.

Lost Brass Match:
This is a Lost Brass Match. Brass is being collected by our local Boy Scout Troop. They will separate the brass and auction it off during the Awards Presentation at approximately 8:30pm. Proceeds from the auction go to the Boy Scout Troop.

Side Match Information:
The DQ Forward rule will not apply to Side Matches at the Smoky Mountain Shoot-Out. Side Matches begin on the morning of Thursday, March 28 at 9am. Awards are presented during the Shooters’ and Vendors’ Reception at The Cowboy Emporium (located at the Oak Ridge Civic Center) on Friday night beginning at approximately 7pm. A certificate is awarded for 1st place in each Side Match category.

Main Match Information:
The Main Match begins on the morning of Friday, March 28 at 8:30am and includes all SASS categories and Outlaw. Awards are presented during the Awards Dinner at The Cowboy Emporium on Saturday night beginning at approximately 8pm. Each Main Match category is awarded a plaque for 1st place and certificates for 2nd and 3rd places. The Top Ten shooters are announced, and an award is presented to the Top Lady and the Top Gun.

Vittles at The Range:
Breakfast and lunch are available at The Range on Friday and Saturday. Various menu items are provided by “Zeke and Nell.” Our local Boy Scout Troop is providing “runner” services (working on tips alone) for water, soft drinks, etc.

Costume Contest:
An informal Costume Contest is scheduled throughout the entire event. Judges are mingling with participants and their partners each day at The Range and The Cowboy Emporium. The judges are also out in full force during the Shooters’ and Vendors’ Reception, and finally during the Awards Reception. Certificates are awarded in each category for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

Door Prizes and Raffles:
As usual, we have many wonderful Door Prizes to give away—thanks to our outstanding Vendors and Sponsors who go above and beyond each year to help make this a great event. Door Prize drawings are held during the Shooters’ and Vendors’ Reception on Friday night beginning at 6pm, and on Saturday night during the Awards Presentation beginning at 8pm. You must be present to win Door Prizes. Raffle drawings are also held on Saturday night
during the Awards Presentation. Again, you must be present to win.
